If the move of God that shakes nations, heals sickness, breaks the back of the enemy and destroys the things of darkness is ever going to come…we must pray.

We MUST have a praying remnant!
We MUST BECOME a praying remnant!

There must be a group of people who will shoulder the burden of the Lord in prayer.

When something touches the heart of God, he relays that burden onto the shoulders of prayer warriors who will pray and seek him.

For the lost to be saved requires people who will pray.
For the mission to be accomplished requires people who will pray.
For miracles to happen requires people who will pray.
For the move of God to come forth requires people who will pray.

The most important place in which we must obey is the place of prayer.

A hundred sermons do not equal the effectiveness of one hour in prayer!
When you pray, you literally have the opportunity to speak to God.

Sermons speak to people about God, but prayer speaks to God about people.

This is why the enemy fights your prayers.
This is why the devil wants you to stop praying.
This is why the strategy of the enemy is to keep the church off of it’s knees.

We KNOW this is the devil’s strategy…
The Bible says…

2 Corinthians 2:11 NKJV
[11] lest Satan should take advantage of us; for we are not ignorant of his devices.

The word, “devices” means:
Intellectual disposition, perception of thoughts and purposes.

It literally means that God gives you the ability to understand what the devil is up to in order to avoid it, counteract it, fight it, and even expose it.

We are not ignorant of what he is up to, but it is THROUGH PRAYER that this knowledge grows.

When we cease to pray, we cease to fight.
The act of prayer is the surest way to bring defeat to the enemies of our soul…and if I could convince someone of one thing, it would be this…
That the simplest prayers contain more power and potential than the longest most intricately written sermons.

  • Your simplest prayer can conquer darkness.
  • Your simplest prayer can overcome devils.
  • Your simplest prayer can stop the enemy in his tracks.

So if he fights against anything, it will be to stop the church from praying.

As I was praying the other day, the Lord impressed me with this thought…

The Lord is trying to raise up a generation of prayer warriors.

Prayer warriors who will:

  • Pray for his church.
  • Intercede not only for the world, but also for the people of God.
  • Pray and call the realities of heaven into existence inside the disturbances in the earth.

We are not to sit back and do NOTHING.
We are called as the people of God to FIGHT!

Prayer is our fight.
Prayer is our battle.

Right now, in this moment of history, I believe more than any other time, prayer is the main thing. If Christians are not praying in the battle, we are losing the battle!

You are a priest and king before the Lord, the New Testament declares.

As in the days of Joel, we need to pray and be moved upon as the prophet spoke generations ago…

Joel 2:11-17 NKJV
[11] The LORD gives voice before His army, For His camp is very great; For strong is the One who executes His word. For the day of the LORD is great and very terrible; Who can endure it? [12] “Now, therefore,” says the LORD, “Turn to Me with all your heart, With fasting, with weeping, and with mourning.” [13] So rend your heart, and not your garments; Return to the LORD your God, For He is gracious and merciful, Slow to anger, and of great kindness; And He relents from doing harm. [14] Who knows if He will turn and relent, And leave a blessing behind Him- A grain offering and a drink offering For the LORD your God? [15] Blow the trumpet in Zion, Consecrate a fast, Call a sacred assembly; [16] Gather the people, Sanctify the congregation, Assemble the elders, Gather the children and nursing babes; Let the bridegroom go out from his chamber, And the bride from her dressing room. [17] Let the priests, who minister to the LORD, Weep between the porch and the altar; Let them say, “Spare Your people, O LORD, And do not give Your heritage to reproach, That the nations should rule over them. Why should they say among the peoples, ‘Where is their God?'”

Our deepest, most earnest desire, must shift from our own wants and desires, and create in us an overwhelming desire to see the will of God happen in the earth.

Do you remember that the Bible says…

2 Peter 3:9 NKJV
[9] The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.

God’s desire is for the whole world to know him!
He wants men and women to repent of their sin, open their heart, allow him to come in, and change their life completely for the good.

The eternal destinies of men and women are at stake…

  • God wants us to have a burden for the lost in our communities.
  • God wants to give us a burden for the hurting and broken.
  • God desires for the church to rise up and seek his face, not only for their own needs, but for those around them.
  • The Lord wants to give us a burden, not only for the NATION, but for the CHURCH IN the nation.

We are to call out to God and cry, “SPARE YOUR PEOPLE, O LORD!”

We don’t know what God holds in store for the nations.
We don’t perceive what God is going to do in the church.
We don’t have clarity about how God will do the things his heart plans to do.
But this one thing we know…God has an eternal will. He has an eternal plan and this plan is accomplished as he moves the people of God to pray.

The Lord is trying to raise up a generation of prayer warriors that will cry out “Spare Your People, God!”

Scripture declares to us the “model prayer” that Jesus taught his disciples…and THIS is what it says…

Matthew 6:9-10 NKJV
[9] In this manner, therefore, pray: Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. [10] Your kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven.
Can the Lord do anything he wants to do? Certainly he can.

God Needs us to do our part, and he wants us to do our part, to operate in our prayers, and declare the things of heaven.

He wants us to be a part of the process.
He wants us to feel his heart in the outcry.
He wants us to get pulled into the plan…into something greater than ourselves.

This part we play, this burden we carry, is the ability to pray.

Every single person has the ability to touch the throne of God in and through prayer.

It isn’t always easy, and prayer is certainly work…but prayer DOES work.

Prayer works in us and through us to accomplish the will of God.

Jude says…

Jude 1:20-21 NKJV
[20] But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit, [21] keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.

Prayer challenges us, and develops us.
It molds and shapes who we are on the inside.

If you want to change your circumstances, you don’t start by changing yourself, you start by praying…because prayer gives God the freedom to move and shift the things of our life from the inside out.

Some people in our generation could care less about praying.
They want the things of God to fill their life without work and without cost.

If the Lord would simply grant all their wishes and make their desires come to pass, they would have all they want from him.
Why? Because all they desire is the hand of God.
The favor, the blessing, the good things…

But you don’t get to have the favor of God, the blessing of God, and the good things of God, unless you have a prayer relationship WITH GOD.

God is known through his Word, but God is experienced as the Word comes alive in us THROUGH prayer.

Some only want God’s “things”…

But others are moved with the desire to know God more.
They read of the past revivals, they hear of the moves of God that swept cities and changed nations.
They read about what the Lord did in the scripture.

They hear the testimony of how God radically touched the lives of people and the presence of the Lord was so powerful and thick.

They’ve heard of his exploits…
They’ve heard of his power in the church…
They’ve heard of the miracles and acts of the Lord…

This stirs a desire in their heart for more…so they pray.

But here’s the problem…

  • Their prayers often seem lackluster.
  • They go to pray and all the world seems against them.
It’s as if the devil himself has orchestrated against their ability to pray.

Where words usually come easy, their tongue feels thick and unable to form a sound.
Even if it could, their mind is a blank slate.

If you have ever felt like this when you want to pray, you are not alone.

There really is a concerted effort of the enemy to stop the prayers of the saints, because he knows and explicitly understands, that when the people of God grasp ahold of prayer, real prayer, hell-rattling prayer, his time is up!

We hear of the great pray-ers of generations ago…how they prayed all night, and they prayed until they had calluses on their knees.

We try our hand at it, but our prayer seems as nothing…our prayers seem to bounce off the walls instead of penetrating the heavens.

The secret is this: *The Prayer life is DEVELOPED.

“Developed,” is the KEY WORD in the prayer process.

Those we read about and hear about, even see and know of today didn’t learn to pray so powerfully and effectively overnight.

In fact, I don’t know if it is possible to ”learn to pray” powerfully and effectively.

Powerful and effective prayer is born out of a developing relationship with Jesus, one in which he speaks to us and has the right to shift things in our heart as he pleases, because he has become the King of our heart.

When someone has your heart, you don’t “learn” how to relate to them, you simply give yourself openly, and the relationship takes shape.

As it relates to prayer…
You and I are not born with the ability to pray down the heavens and stop satanic hordes.
But over time, and through perseverance, our prayer lives are developed by the Lord.

We go from one point to another.

Don’t be discouraged if you cannot pray for hours on end, but be encouraged that every time you pray, you make progress in prayer.

Let me say that again…

Every time you pray, you make progress in prayer.

Your prayer life deepens.
Your resilience widens.
Your spirit expands to hold more of what God wants to do through you.

I believe in this hour, God is calling people to intercede like never before.

The Lord is trying to raise up a generation of prayer warriors to cry out “spare your people, O God!”

If we are not careful, we can become discouraged because we don’t feel the authority to intercede for others, or because we don’t sense the depth of the need…but I’m telling you to be encouraged., because every single time you intercede and pray for what or for who God has placed on your heart, your ability to intercede and feel the heart of God for that person or situation will grow stronger.

God is actively looking for people onto which he can place “prayer burdens.”

Since the start, God has chosen to work with and work through people.

Some would disagree, but I say that God has placed himself in a position where he NEEDS US to pray.

Yes, he could sovereignly do everything on his own, but that would not form his life in his people.

As we pray and become part of the process, the life of God is formed in us.

We take on the Lord’s nature, his character, his thoughts and desires.
The Lord’s burden becomes our burden as we allow him to develop us in prayer.

God is simply looking for people who will submit to the development process…that when he calls them to prayer, they actually come and pray…when he burdens their heart, they shoulder the load to him in prayer.

Stay faithful.
Stay open.
Stay humble.
Stay ready.

There’s no telling what great things your prayers are accomplishing when you simply obey the call to pray.

Even now, pray and declare…

Spare my family.
Spare my church.
Spare my children.
Spare my spirit.

Larry Shankle

My heart is for the church that Jesus is building and returning for...the church that the gates of hell will not prevail against.
More than anything, the desire of my heart is to see the greatest revival of the Holy Spirit, salvations, spiritual awakening, and for the miraculous to come back to the church, preparing believers for the return of Jesus.
