This won’t be popular with most, but it is true nonetheless.
The people of God must STAY INSIDE the boundary lines!

It’s time to for the people of God to root out from themselves, ANYTHING that defiles or makes us unclean.

Yes, I realize we cannot make ourselves clean before God through works, or efforts, but I’m saying, we CAN and MUST eliminate anything from our life that causes us to be separated and distanced from God!

In fact, just so that we see this idea from a New Testament perspective, let’s read another passage of scripture.

2 Corinthians 6:16-18 NKJV
[16] And what agreement has the temple of God with idols? For you are the temple of the living God. As God has said: “I will dwell in them And walk among them. I will be their God, And they shall be My people.”

Now, that is an awesome promise of God to us, and an awesome privilege to become the temple of the Holy Spirit, but it comes with a great responsibility that God WILL NOT DO FOR US, one which we must do for ourselves.

[17] Therefore “Come out from among them And be separate, says the Lord. Do not touch what is unclean, And I will receive you.” [18] “I will be a Father to you, And you shall be My sons and daughters, Says the LORD Almighty.”

The word, “separate,” in this passage carries much of the same meaning as the Old Testament word, “consecrate.”

But it takes the idea even further.

Here’s what it means:
To mark off from others BY BOUNDARIES, to limit, to appoint for a purpose.

Sounds a lot like consecration to me.

This call of consecration means that THERE MUST BE boundaries in my life.

The boundaries that I live by, keep me from touching things God hates.

This call of consecration means that I must do my part to limit my interaction with things of THIS WORLD.

James 1:27 NKJV
[27] Pure and undefiled religion before God and the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their trouble, and to keep oneself unspotted from the world.

What does it mean to KEEP MYSELF unspotted from the world?

It means:

  • Unblemished, free from censure, irreproachable.*

In other words…
This call means that I keep myself unspotted from the world, by limiting the world’s ideas, the world’s devotions, and the world’s precious things from becoming something that steals my heart away from the Lord, causing me to become blemished by the world.

This can’t happen, you say?
Scripture declares that it can!

Luke 21:34-36 NKJV
[34] “But take heed to yourselves, lest your hearts be weighed down with carousing, drunkenness, and cares of this life, and that Day come on you unexpectedly. [35] For it will come as a snare on all those who dwell on the face of the whole earth. [36] Watch therefore, and pray always that you may be counted worthy to escape all these things that will come to pass, and to stand before the Son of Man.”

If we are not fully consecrated to the Lord, keeping ourselves unspotted from the world, holding tightly onto his word, the cares of this life will move us in a direction that is away from God, and ultimately cause us to be unaware of the times in which we live…and you can see it happening to people everywhere…right NOW.

So this call to consecration, is for us the church.
It is the call to “come out from among” everything of the world.

  • to be different.
  • to be holy, by keeping ourselves in constant connection with Jesus.

Yes, only Jesus can MAKE us holy, but just as the branch must stay attached to the vine, so WE must STAY ATTACHED in relationship and communication with Jesus.

You and I both know that we have the power to draw closer to God or to draw back from him.

The closer we are to God, the further we are from the world.

This call to consecration means…

  • to be separate.
  • to be free from even touching evil.

We have a CHOICE about the things, ideas, people, thoughts, actions, and beliefs that we ALLOW INTO our life and heart.
This is why scripture tells us to guard our heart!

Ultimately, anything that separates us from God becomes an idol in our heart.
It’s time for the people of God to begin “Laying down our idols.”

This is a very strange thing to understand in our present earthly culture.
Many believers would never give their life and heart over to an actual idol made of wood, stone, or gold, but many often pervert their soul by going after the things of the world at the expense of their devotion, dedication, and consecration to God.

But the warning of scripture for us in this last day remains clear…
There is a call of God going forth for the people of God to CONSECRATE themselves.

In fact, the book of Joel cited earlier, deals with the last days of earth.

Joel 1:14-15 NKJV
[14] Consecrate a fast, Call a sacred assembly; Gather the elders And all the inhabitants of the land Into the house of the LORD your God, And cry out to the LORD. [15] Alas for the day! For the day of the LORD is at hand; It shall come as destruction from the Almighty.

But you and I don’t have to face the destruction!
We can be counted worthy to ESCAPE and stand before Jesus!

Here’s my prayer:

“Lord, help us to heed the call to consecration. Strengthen us to stand against the world and not be taken captive by the cares of this life. Let our heart be fully given over to Jesus so that we might escape the things coming on the world and stand before you, in your presence.”

My heart is for the church that Jesus is building and returning for...the church that the gates of hell will not prevail against.
More than anything, the desire of my heart is to see the greatest revival of the Holy Spirit, salvations, spiritual awakening, and for the miraculous to come back to the church, preparing believers for the return of Jesus.
